Need to Get Assessed?

Getting assessed is the first step to receiving government-funded home care. If your assessment is still underway or under review, it simply means the government team is making sure your care needs and eligibility are up to date. This can happen due to changes in health, lifestyle, or support needs.

What You Can Do While You Wait

  • Stay in contact with the assessment team for updates or requests.
  • Provide any information about recent health or mobility changes.
  • Ask questions so you understand what to expect next.
  • Be patient—reviewing an assessment doesn't mean you won't receive support.

Steps You Can Take Now

  • Prepare information about your daily needs, mobility, and current challenges.
  • Talk to your GP or specialist to gather supporting documents if needed.
  • Start researching providers so you're ready when approval comes through.
  • Speak with Ultimate Aged Care for guidance on navigating the assessment process.

Waiting for Your Package

Home Care Packages are allocated through the National Priority System, which means wait times can vary. While you're waiting, you don't have to go without support—there are options available to help you access care sooner.

Your Options While You Wait

  1. Access CHSP Services
Entry-level support through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme may be available sooner. You pay only a small subsidised fee and can access basic services immediately.
  2. Accept an Interim Package
If you've been approved for a higher-level package, you may be offered a lower-level interim option while you wait. This gives you some funding and services now, without losing your place in the queue for your approved level.
  3. Consider Private Care
You can start receiving care immediately by paying privately for short-term or ongoing services. There's no waiting period or assessment needed, and you can continue these services after your HCP arrives.
  4. Start Comparing Providers
This is a perfect time to explore Home Care Providers and understand their fees, flexibility, and service options. Being ready means you can start care immediately once your package is assigned.

Steps You Can Take Now

  • Check your My Aged Care portal for estimated wait times.
  • Ask your assessor if CHSP or interim packages are suitable for you.
  • Contact Ultimate Aged Care to explore private care or plan ahead for your HCP.
  • Shortlist providers based on fees, flexibility, and services.

Switching Providers

If you already have a Home Care Package but feel your current provider isn't meeting your needs—whether due to service quality, availability, communication, or fees—switching is simple. You have the right to choose a provider who better supports your goals.

How Switching Works

  • Review your current agreement and any notice period.
  • Request a referral code through My Aged Care.
  • Choose a new provider who aligns with your expectations.
  • Transfer your package without losing funding or your package level.

Steps to Switch Smoothly

  • Identify what's not working with your current provider.
  • Compare alternatives and check their fee structures and flexibility.
  • Contact Ultimate Aged Care to discuss your needs and transition plan.
  • Submit a referral code so care can begin with your new provider.
